Announcements
Thanks to our amazing community, we currently have very limited space left in our program. Please contact us for more details! Registration for September 2025 will start in the spring.
The month of December meant time for another field trip! This time, we paid our local firefighters a visit at the King City Fire Station! We had so much fun seeing the fire trucks, learning about fire safety, and trying on some fire gear!
Finally, we had a visit from Santa himself at our annual family holiday party! A good time was had by all and we will resume school on January 6th!
We would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a Happy Holiday season! We will see you in the new year!
About Us
King City Co-Op Nursery School (KCNS) is a co-operative/not-for-profit preschool located in King City and was established in 1966 by a group of concerned parents who recognized the need for a special place for their children to learn and play with other children.
KCNS is licensed by the Ministry of Education, supported by King Township and inspected by the King Fire Department and York Region District Health Unit.
Our Philosophy:
At KCNS we believe in a play-based philosophy. Children are full of natural curiosity and they explore this curiosity through play and when children are playing, it is the perfect time to learn.
Play teaches children how to problem solve, how to make friends, how to express themselves, how to enjoy the world around them, and how to recognize letters, colours, shapes and numbers. All of these skills form the foundation of a love of learning and it is our goal at KCNS to promote this love of learning in a safe, warm and loving environment.
Our Staff and School:
Classes are kept to a low student/teacher ratio. Our experienced Registered Early Childhood Educators and qualified Assistants work together to create a fun-filled, inclusive learning environment.
We are located in the heart of King City Ontario, inside the King City United Church. Contact us today to arrange a visit!
At King City Co-op Nursery School, we recognize that every child is unique and that emotional intelligence is an important foundation for all future experiences.
We are committed to providing a safe and stimulating environment where each child can strive socially, physically, emotionally, and intellectually. The KCNS program is designed to meet the needs of each child in an atmosphere which fosters cooperation, responsibility, and order.

Our Program
The King City Co-Op Nursery School program offers integrated, play based learning with an effort to prepare children for entry to Kindergarten. Special holidays and events are recognized and celebrated. We offer a lot of learning and a lot of fun!
We currently offer 3, 4, or 5 mornings per week for 2 – 4 year old children.
Our school hours are 9 am - 1 pm Monday to Friday.
We follow the school year calendar and our program runs from September to June every year. We also observe all holidays as per the York Region District School Board, so we are closed for the winter holidays, March Break, and any time there is a PA day as per the YRDSB school calendar.
Children bring in a nutritious snack and lunch each day and our lunch program starts at noon. We are a strict NUT FREE facility!
We try to get outside daily if weather permits.
Our Fees
5 days per week Monday to Friday at $293/month
4 days per week Tuesday to Friday at $245/month
3 days per week Tuesday to Thursday at $209/month
The above rates are reflective of current CWELLC daily rates and include a monthly $20 supply fee.
For first time families, there is a $125 registration fee. Consecutive returning families pay $50.
As a registered not-for-profit, KCNS aims to keep programming as affordable as possible. Tuition is calculated as an annual cost broken into more manageable monthly payments. As such, all months in attendance are the same cost and we do not offer discounted tuition during observed holidays or personal vacation away from school.

What is a Co-op Nursery School?
A co-operative nursery school presents a unique opportunity for a mutual learning experience- teacher, parents and child, learn together. The school is governed and run by the parents of the children attending the school.
We have our paid staff of qualified teachers who develop the program and run the class. However, the administration of the school is handled by the co-op members. This allows us to offer lower fees than most other preschools, but means that each family accepts a commitment that helps to run the school.
We ask that you consider a position on our Board. The Board meets via video conference once a month. These individuals work alongside the teachers to vote on decisions that are impacting the school now, and for the foreseeable future.
For parents that are not on the Board of Directors, they are asked to come in and assist with cleaning toys or laundry every few weeks on a rotational basis. All parent volunteers are required to complete a police background check. Participating in occasional fundraisers or volunteering in the classroom may also be requested.
A co-op is is a wonderful way for parents to feel connected to the school and be part of your child’s first educational experience.
Below is a list of our executive Board positions - we have open positions each year to fill.

I am so sad that our time at KCNS has come to an end. We will miss this little home and the community we've created. Thank you KCNS for the love, learning, laughter, and core memories.

Both my children attended KCNS. As a first time mom it was hard to leave them with someone new. But the teachers were phenomenal. They took such care to learn about my daughter and get to know her. To learn about her interests and to let her shine. With my second, he was so comfortable with the school and environment that he never even looked back. Just gave a high-five and said "bye, see you later!" I will be truly sad when the day comes that they graduate from KCNS and it will no longer be part of our lives.

My sister in law recommended KCNS a couple of years ago. She enrolled her son and had nothing but good things to say. I couldn't agree more. This school has made my family and son so happy. By the time he was enrolled at 2.5 yrs old, he wasn't saying more than a couple of words. A few months in and now we can't shut him up. The teachers are great. Very engaging, and they even have an app where daily reports and photos are provided for your child. Highly recommend this school to anyone. It's like a family there.
